Blowout coil for the rail industry
Electropak has experience designing and manufacturing blowout coils for the rail industry. A blowout coil is a safety device used to suppress electric arcs created in the air gap between contacts when switching high currents. Magnetic blowout coils overcome this condition by providing a magnetic field that pushes the arc away from the contact field.
On recent blowout coils manufactured for UK trains, Electropak developed a machine that pre-heated the copper strip to anneal it as it was wound. The tight coils enable the blowout coils to fit in a small envelope of space and reduce the risk of fire on the trains.
Electropak is a UKC Group company, consisting of multiple specialised subsidiaries, each bringing distinct expertise to deliver a comprehensive range of services to our global clients.
